Preparing for a Camping Trip
The old adage ‘better safe than sorry,’ rings true for most things, and it is no different when it comes to
camping. It is very important to be prepared when you are going into the wild, after all, you never know what can happen. The weather for one, may not always be your friend, one minute the weather may be welcoming and the next thing you know, it is falling in torrents. Therefore, a camping trip is something that should be well thought out, bearing all possible hiccups in mind.
When camping, you should have a plan A, B, and C in place, even if they are not written down, you should have them in your mind, in dangerous situations, where your survival is at risk, you will be glad that you have a backup plan. Though you cannot plan for everything that can and may go wrong, knowing that you have a plan gives you a certain peace of mind.
There are many things that should be thought about prior to the actual trip, of course, the location is the first thing that should be considered. New campers should choose a location that is popular, which is frequented by many other campers. This ensures that if at any time you need help, it is available. Knowing first aid is a survival skill that you should have, it can come in handy if one of your fellow campers gets into trouble. Added to this, you should never go camping without a fully equipped first aid kit.
You should also know how long you will be staying, whether it is just a weekend
camping trip or for a longer period. This will help you to decide how much food you should pack, you should always make sure that you have adequate food to last for the entirety of the trip, especially if you have chosen somewhere that is far off the beaten track, you should also remember to pack lots and lots of water!
A list of all the things that you will need is a great idea, this ensures that nothing is forgotten or gets left behind. When we think of camping, the first thing that comes to mind is a ‘tent.’ While having a tent is very important, we must not forget about the smaller things that we need, things like a cooler to keep your food and drinks cool in. Having a checklist is one of the most important tools that you can use when preparing for a camping trip, it keeps everything organized and lets you know at all times what is needed. Most of the list can be done without any research, just basic common sense, and also by using the following four premises; food, shelter, water, and protection.
These are all based on your basic needs, in your everyday life. Using these four as a guide, I am sure you will be able to compile a list of everything you will need to make your camping trip a success!
